DSS Recaptures Obadaki, Ansari T£rrorist Group Top Leader and Mastermind of 2012 Deeper Life Church Massacre in Okene
The Department of State Services (DSS) has recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, a top commander of the Ansari terrorist group and alleged architect of the August 7, 2012, mass shooting at a Deeper Life Bible Church near Okene, Kogi State.
In the brazen attack, at least 19 worshippers, including the pastor, were K!lled, and several others injured after three gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the church and opened fire.
Security sources revealed that Obadaki, who later orchestrated a deadly raid on five commercial banks in Uromi, Edo State, had been arrested but escaped during the July 2022 Kuje Custodial Centre jailbreak. He reportedly confessed to masterminding the prison break after his transfer from Kabba Custodial Centre in June 2022.
After more than three years evading capture, DSS operatives recaptured Obadaki, alias Bomboy, in a precision intelligence operation on Friday morning.
This arrest follows the DSS arraigning five suspects tied to the 2022 St. Francis Catholic Church attack in Owo, Ondo State, just two months ago.
The February 2022 Uromi bank robberies left several policemen and customers dead, with hundreds of millions of naira looted, sparking regional panic.
Under new leadership, the DSS has notched a series of victories against terrorists and criminals nationwide, expediting trials for captured suspects.
