Armed bandits on Thursday afternoon intercepted an 18-seater commercial bus along the Osokoko–Obajana axis in Kogi State and abducted all passengers on board, local sources confirmed.

The gunmen had targeted two buses, but the second vehicle managed to escape. Moments after the attack, Nigerian Army troops responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in gunfire and forcing them to flee into surrounding bushes.

A video circulating online showed travellers resuming their journey after soldiers cleared the highway. A woman in the footage declared: “Road don clear, all thanks to the Nigerian Army, everybody don dey go back.”

According to Sahara Reporters, no casualties were reported among passengers or troops, though the exact number of abducted victims remains unknown. Authorities are yet to release an official statement.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after bandits attempted to abduct students from Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu LGA, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Local vigilantes successfully rescued all the pupils, but one vigilante and a Hausa resident were killed in the clash.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the Osokoko–Obajana route until security is reinforced, as banditry continues to threaten major highways in Kogi State.

The attacks highlight the worsening wave of mass kidnappings in Nigeria’s north-central region, where over 400 people, mostly schoolchildren, have been seized since mid-November, drawing global outrage.
