Herder Kills Farmer in Taraba, Escapes Mob Action

A violent clash in Sebre village, Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba, left a 37-year-old Mumuye farmer, Danjuma Samaila, dead after a dispute with a 27-year-old Fulani herder, Ali Sani, on Tuesday.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 12:35 p.m. when Sani led his cattle into Samaila’s melon farm, sparking an argument. The herder allegedly attacked Samaila with a machete, inflicting fatal wounds to his back, killing him instantly. Sani fled the scene, leaving behind 14 cows.

Later, enraged Mumuye youths spotted Sani on the outskirts of Sebre and attacked him with machetes, leaving him seriously injured. He was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. Samaila’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where he was confirmed dead.

Tension remains high in Sebre and nearby villages, but elders and local leaders are working to calm youths and prevent further violence.
