JUST IN: Security Forces Rescue Eight Kidnapped Passengers in Kogi, Two Others Remain In Captivity
Security forces in Kogi State have rescued eight passengers kidnapped by gunmen along the Okene–Auchi highway on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The attack, reported by Zagazola Makama, occurred around 3:48 p.m. when approximately 15 armed men, disguised in military camouflage, ambushed a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus (registration number EDO UBJ 114 ZY) operated by Big Joe Ventures Ltd.
The bus, en route to Benin, Edo State, from Abuja, carried 11 passengers.
During the assault, one female passenger, Adesuwat Bright, was shot in the left shoulder.
The gunmen abducted several passengers, prompting an immediate response from the Divisional Police Officer, who mobilized Police Mobile Force operatives and local vigilantes.
The injured passenger was rushed to CUSTECH Hospital in Okene for treatment.
Following a distress call, the combined security team pursued the kidnappers into the bush, engaging them in a fierce gun duel. The confrontation forced the assailants to abandon eight passengers, who were rescued unharmed.
However, two victims remain in captivity as the kidnappers fled.
The police have launched a manhunt and bush-combing operations to rescue the remaining hostages and apprehend the suspects. Authorities are intensifying efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals and to curb the rising threat of highway kidnappings in the region.
