JUST IN: Unknown Gunmen Unleash Attack on Police in Yagba East, Lokoja K!ll Four Officers, Cart Away Rifles
Four policemen were killed in two separate ambushes by armed hoodlums in Kogi State on September 21, the Police Command has confirmed, with the assailants making off with service rifles.
The first attack occurred around 8:00 a.m. along Ilafin-Odogbe Road in Yagba East LGA, where approximately 20 gunmen targeted a patrol team from 70 PMF Kabba attached to Isanlu Area Command. “ASP Umar Suleman and CPL Bitrus Isaac were shot dead in the attack,” sources reported, noting that the attackers fled with two AK-47 rifles containing 28 rounds of ammunition. The victims’ bodies were evacuated to the General Hospital Mortuary, and joint security teams have since intensified surveillance, bush combing, and intelligence efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
In a second incident at 11:30 a.m., hoodlums struck the 37 PMF outpost in Abugi, Lokoja, killing Insp. Johnson David and Insp. Ehinola Oluwole on the spot. The assailants also killed a passerby, Isah Gilad, and escaped with a T06 rifle and an AK-47, each loaded with 30 rounds. “The corpses were deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy,” sources confirmed.
Following the attacks, all police formations in Kogi State have been placed on red alert, with additional deployments to strategic locations to prevent further assaults.
The incidents have heightened concerns about rising insecurity in the region, prompting calls for enhanced security measures to protect both officers and civilians.
