Man Arrested in Kogi for Alleged Killing of 11-Year-Old Son
The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended Jato Alhaji Jaye for the alleged killing of his 11-year-old son, Buhari Jato, in the Agbaja area of Oworo land, Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to sources, the incident came to light on August 19 when Zuberu Adamu of Fulani bush camp, Agbaja village, reported to the police that his sister, Adama Adamu, had not seen her son since August 17, when he went grazing with his father.
A search party discovered the boy’s lifeless body in the bush, where Jaye was allegedly attempting to bury it to conceal the act.
Police officers from Division ‘B’, Lokoja, arrived at the scene, took photographs, arrested the suspect, and released the decomposing body to the family for burial per Islamic rites.
During interrogation, Jaye reportedly confessed, stating that the deceased had “offended him” while they were rearing animals together.
He admitted to using a Fulani stick to flog the boy as punishment, leading to his death.
The case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, for further investigation.
