Kuroko United edged Eganyi Pillars 7-6 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw to book their place in the semifinals of the Prince Kabiru Onimisi Atta Annual Football Competition.

Eganyi Pillars controlled the first half and created a string of chances but could not find an early breakthrough. Their pressure finally paid off in the 42nd minute when Ajayi Abdullahi produced a wonderful swerving strike that beat the goalkeeper after he had overpowered the Kuroko defenders.

The second half belonged to Kuroko United, who piled on the pressure. Seven minutes of added time were awarded because of injuries and medical treatment. With the clock deep into stoppage time, striker Ashley Cole rose highest to head home the equaliser in the 95th minute, denying Eganyi Pillars a place in the last four with just two minutes left on the clock.

The penalty shootout proved equally tense. Both sides converted their first five kicks before the contest moved to sudden death. Eganyi Pillars missed their seventh attempt, allowing Fatai “Fanta” to step up and calmly slot home the decisive spot-kick that sent Kuroko United through.

Kuroko United will now face Camp United in the semifinals on Tuesday, 4 August.

In a separate disciplinary ruling signed by James Adinoyi, the disciplinary chairman, Kuroko United were fined ₦5,000 for the use of abusive words against the Eganyi Pillars coach on several occasions, even after warnings.

Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee has credited transportation allowances to the remaining quarter-finalists ahead of their matches tomorrow. Otite Stars and Adavi-Eba All Stars each received ₦30,000 to ensure a stress-free journey to the venue.
